2008 Economic Impact Survey
The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor is conducting an economic impact study of heritage development and tourism within the Corridor in 2008. The data will contribute to an analysis of heritage tourism activity in selected National Heritage Areas throughout the nation, while also establishing a baseline for the entire Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor.
The national effort uses an economic model called the Money Generation Model (MGM2) to determine economic impacts based on survey data.
When and where will the survey take place?
Surveys will be administered at selected sites throughout the Corridor from July through October.
Who is involved in the project?
A team of Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor partners along with a project advisory team from the University at Albany and Cornell University.
How will the survey be used?
Once the baseline data is collected and analyzed, the Erie Canalway NHC and its partner organizations could use the information to provide a snap shot of the economic impact activity from heritage development and tourism each year, as well as use the analysis internally for project planning and resource allocation.
Volunteers Welcome
Though we have already conducted three volunteer training sessions, we welcome additional volunteers to collect survey data. Please contact Hannah Blake to sign up.
