Turning great ideas and plans into reality requires funds to get the job done. The Erie Canalway offers references for grant opportunities and limited funding for projects that help to achieve the goals set forth in our Preservation and Management Plan.

2013 Events sponsored >
Erie Canalway offers a limited number of $500 sponsorships for events or festivals that showcase the Canalway Corridor's nationally significant heritage and the tremendous recreational appeal of the waterway and trails today. Municipalies or nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations are eligible.

This is a competitive grant program which makes awards ranging from $2,000 to $7,000. The grants fund projects that serve to advance the goals and strategies of the Erie Canalway Preservation and Management Plan. Awards must be matched dollar for dollar.

Economic Development Council Awards

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) initiative recently awarded $738 million in economic development funding across New York. Of those funds, nearly $118 million was awarded to canal communities, including almost $31 million for canal port and waterfront improvements, main street rehabilitation projects, visual and performing arts, trails and recreational enhancements, and historic preservation. The New York State Canal Corporation awarded $1.3 million in grants.
