Things to Know:Operating Hours and Seasons
Most towpath sections of the Erie Canalway are open year around from dawn until dusk. The canal is typically open from May 1 through November 15. It is closed to boat traffic during the winter. to the Canal System in Waterford
Be sure to visit the Waterford Harbor Visitor Center at Lock 2 Park in Waterford. Visitors can picnic, watch boats, or explore the waterway by canoe, kayak, or motorboat. The center offers an orientation to the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, as well as local and regional attractions, and a farmer's market on Sunday mornings from June through October. Boater ammenities include:
water, showers, electric, pump-out, merchandise, phone and computer access.
Directly across the Mohawk River and connected by a pedestrian bridge, visit Peebles Island State Park at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers. The 158-acre park features spectacular river views from trails that traverse the island’s gently rolling and wooded landscape.
