THINGS TO DO: Historic Sites and Museums
Step into the past and discover the people, places, and events that shaped our state and nation at one of many historic sites and museums throughout the Corridor.

You’ll quickly find that the culture and economies of the people who have explored and made their home in New York are inextricably linked to the waterways and landscapes of the state.

The Corridor's museums and historic sites share artifacts and stories from Native Americans to European explorers and settlers to the canal builders, canallers, merchants, farmers, immigrants, and leaders who built the Empire State.  A number of museums specialize in the history of the canal.

There are a variety of places to visit, from small town museums to historic homes to National Park sites. NYS Heritage Area Visitor Centers are also located throughout the corridor and offer a good way to get oriented.
