Boating: The Great Loop
The Great Loop is a 5,000 to 7,500 mile boating route that follows the continuous waterways of Eastern North America, including the Atlantic and Gulf Intracoastal Waterways, the Great Lakes, the Canadian Heritage Canals, and the inland rivers of America’s heartland.

In New York, boaters follow the Hudson River to Waterford, where they take the Erie Canal to Lake Ontario or Lake Erie or follow the Champlain Canal to the St. Lawrence Seaway.  Also known as the Great Circle Route, boaters consider the Great Loop to be among the greatest and safest long distance cruising routes in the world.

The Triangle Loop is a cruising route that follows the Erie Canal from Waterford to the Oswego Canal to Lake Ontario, then crosses Lake Ontario and returns to Troy via the St. Lawrence and Richelieu rivers, Lake Champlain, and the Champlain Canal.
