Richmond Aqueduct, Montezuma
Aqueducts carried the Erie Canal over rivers and creeks. These “water bridges” were typically constructed with stone arches supporting the towpath and wooden channels carrying the water and boats. The canal system no longer uses these original aqueducts, but remnants of many can be found from Albany to Buffalo.
